Thackrey Pleiades Red XXVIII

VARIETAL: Predominantly Alicante Bouschet with smaller amounts Syrah and ZinfandelVINEYARDS: Sourced from vineyards in Madera (Alicante Bouschet), Lodi (Zinfandel), and Monterey (Syrah)VINIFICATION: Grapes were picked at dawn, then crushed and de-stemmed quickly to tanks while still cold. After a long cold soak, fermentation was initiated, tanks were allowed to heat up for maximum extraction of fruit and color. The fermenting wine was pumped over twice a day to give the yeast plenty of oxygen for a nice clean fermentation. Once dry, the grapes were lightly pressed off the skins before bottling.TASTING NOTES: The 2019 vintage will be remembered as one of the best of the decade. A wet winter followed by a wet spring started the year off a little late but CA needed that water! Northern CA did not suffer the usual mid-July/August heat waves; actually, the summer was extremely mild compared to most. As the fruit slowly ripened and rain remained absent, it became obvious that though the crop would be short, but the growing season nearly perfect.Deep purple in the glass, the nose is packed with dark forest fruit, crushed peppercorn, and a hint of vanilla bean. The palate is plush with fine tannins and flavors of ripe, jammy blackberry compote, purple fig, and baking spices.
