Provence, France2019Diana Snowden Seyssesis responsible for great wines from two of the world's most famous regions: Burgundy and Napa Valley. She grew up in Napa Valley, and continues to make wine with her family there, but she married Jeremy Seysses, whose family owns Domaine Dujac, one of the most famous wine estates in France, and now lives in Burgundy making some of the world's most sought after Pinot Noir. The Seysses family combined forces with Aubert de Villaine, of Domaine de la Romanee Conti, in the early 90s, to found Triennes, in Provence. As of the 2013 vintage, Diana has been involved in operations at Triennes, and since that time they have converted to certified organic farming and native yeast fermentations. Triennes' 2019 rosé is here and it is a classic Provencal style, light in color, with a distinctive onion skin hue and a fresh dry finish. Complex and engaging, with notes of red berries, citrus juice and pith, herbs and flowers; there's a lot of pointless pink plonk from Provence, Triennes is far from that group. Serve this with just about anything, but one might especially consider garlicy and liberally herbed fare.
